A Quarter Century

Twenty-Five Years of Roots.

In December of the year 2000, a small gathering of like-minded neighbors planted the seed of what is now the Jasper Herb Society. Twenty-five Decembers later, we are still meeting, still growing, and very much still in bloom.

A short history

From a small gathering
to a quarter-century strong

  1. 2000

    The seed is planted

A small gathering of like-minded neighbors meets in Jasper for the first time, sharing cuttings and a love of growing things.

  2. 2012

    Annual Herb Day begins

The Society launches its signature spring fundraiser — herb plant sales, vendors, demos, food, family — now held in late April every year.

  3. 2018

    Jasper Seed Library opens

In partnership with the Jasper Public Library, the free seed library opens its drawers to the community — free packets, no questions, just gardens.

  4. 2025

1,600 seed packets in one season

The Seed Library distributes thousands of packets across the year, with nearly 1,600 set out in a single early-season setup — supported by donations and Jasper city officials.

  5. 2026

    Twenty-five years.

This year. The whole year. Quietly, steadily, herbally — we celebrate a quarter century of community in Walker County.

A letter from the Society

The Jasper Herb Society marks a significant milestone in 2026: its twenty-fifth anniversary. Founded in December 2000, this vibrant community of herb enthusiasts in Jasper, Alabama has grown from a small gathering of like-minded individuals into a cornerstone of local horticulture, education, and community giving.

Over the past quarter century, the Society has remained dedicated to promoting herbs through hands-on activities, workshops, and public outreach. Our efforts reflect a deep appreciation for how herbs enhance daily life — from flavoring meals, to supporting wellness, to beautifying gardens.

Whether you're a seasoned herbalist or just curious about adding fresh basil or lavender to your life, the Jasper Herb Society welcomes new members and enthusiasts. Our work proves that a love for herbs can grow into something truly lasting — much like the organization itself.
