It's a sharing library — but for seeds. Anyone in Jasper can start a garden, grow their own food and flowers, and pass seeds along to a neighbor.
The Jasper Herb Society runs the seed library with help from the library and the City of Jasper. Anyone can take free seed packets — though we hope you'll get a card and check out the books and everything else the library has to offer, too.
The seed library started a few years ago to get more people gardening and saving seeds. It caught on fast — and with help from partners like the Walker County Master Gardeners, some seasons it has given away more than three thousand packets.
Many are heirloom varieties or types that do especially well in Alabama weather. Each packet holds a small amount of seed and simple growing tips.

Our society is all about herbs: growing them, using them, and teaching others. The seed library fits perfectly. It helps people try new plants, save money on food, and keep our community green and strong.
Many of our members help pack the seeds, set up the rack, and answer questions — and gardeners love posting pictures of what they've grown in our Facebook group, which inspires everyone to plant a little more.
