Spring walks happen in March·April·Early May

A fun way to get outside, learn about plants, and enjoy the season together around Jasper, Alabama.

These are relaxed outings where members and friends explore local spots to spot wild herbs, early-blooming flowers, and other interesting plants. It's a great chance to see how things grow naturally in Walker County — and pick up tips on what might work in your own yard or garden.

Into the green
Why we walk

Spring wakes everything back up.

Herbs and wild plants wake up after winter — fresh green leaves, pretty flowers, and maybe some early edibles or medicinals.

Learn from experienced gardeners in a relaxing setting, at a pace that suits everyone.

Walking together builds community — we share stories, swap advice, and sometimes collect seeds or cuttings (with permission, of course).

What to expect

Easy, hands-on, and friendly

No experience needed. Our members guide the way, pointing out plants and sharing how to grow and use them at home.

An easy pace

Walks are usually short and not too hard — great for all ages and beginners.

Expert guides

Members explain what each plant is, how to use it in cooking, tea, or medicine, and how to grow it.

Hands-on fun

Identify plants by smell, leaf shape, or flower color — and learn about the pollinators that love them.

Bring a camera

A notebook or phone is perfect for snapping photos and jotting down what you spot.

What you'll spot

Native plants that love Alabama spring.

Past walks have wandered local parks, nature trails, and members' gardens where spring plants are thriving. We focus on useful herbs and natives — yes, even the dandelions.
